July 18th: Learning about Fireweed
"Squirrel, I noticed that when I was driving along the ride, there are these red and pink plants that grow all along the sides of the roads. They're very pretty, do they have a special name?"
"They're called fireweed", Squirrel said. "They grow every year. At the beginning of the year they are small, and not red, but by the end of the year they have a beautiful color, and grow over five or six feet tall. Some of the local Indians know how to make food and medicine from them. And like you said, they're very pretty to look at when they're all along the side of the road."
