June 10th: "Cheechako"

"Hey, Squirrel", I asked my little friend, "the other day you called me a 'Chee-choo-choo', or something like that. What does that mean?"

"It's Cheechako", Squirrel said, while eating a potato chip, "and it's what we call someone who is living in Alaska, but hasn't made it through a winter yet. It's like a 'new person', or 'newbie'. New people are Cheechako's, and people that have been here a long time are called Sourdough's."

"I like that", I said. "Hopefully one day I will be a sourdough."
